世界經濟動力核心東移，不少歐美學生近年都爭取機會在暑假去大陸的機構當實習生，無償賺取工作經驗。負責相關配對安排的機構，近年生意以倍數增長，有高層坦言：「學生花三個月去沙灘的日子已成過去。」
根據中美文摘報導，23歲波蘭籍金融系學生利塞克(Angelika Lisek)，正在香港大學作為期一年的交流生，去(2012)年暑假曾到上海一間美資財富管理機構實習了兩個月。她說：「我從未到過亞洲，這是新挑戰。」她今個暑假會再到上海。
跟她一樣熱衷到大陸實習的歐美學生，近年人數飆升。英國仲介公司Absolute Internship去年安排250人到北京、上海和香港實習，今年增至700人。總監范許恩說：「我們今年接獲的實習申請，較去年多五倍。」
英國另一間同類機構CRCC Asia，由2006年創立時只有20個客，到今年安排2,000名學生去北京和上海，較去年大增800人。實習工作來自各行各業，但學生主要修讀商業、金融或市場學。
由於學生只獲大陸當局簽發商務簽證，實習工作都是無薪；學生更要付款給仲介公司，安排簽證、住宿和遊覽費。去北京或上海一、兩個月，收費2,900至4,900美元(22,620至38,220港元)，到香港實習兩個月收5,900美元(46,020港元)。
利塞克指實習工作不是鬧著玩的，她去年就負責為客戶訂立財務模式。雖然實習無薪，她說：「經驗較收薪重要。畢業才想到薪金都未遲。」
